The Basics is a powerful, evidence-based program designed to help children from birth to age 5 develop the essential cognitive, emotional, and social skills needed for a lifetime of success. The program highlights the importance of simple, everyday interactions—such as talking, reading, and playing—with caregivers to boost brain development and set children on a path toward reaching their full potential.

Alamance County Schools Exceptional Children's Department

The goal of the Alamance-Burlington Schools (ABSS) Exceptional Children's Division is to educate children with exceptionalities and foster their independence, enabling them to become contributing and productive citizens. Our division provides specially designed instruction to children with a broad spectrum of abilities and disabilities, striving to promote their cognitive, physical, social/emotional, and vocational development.

Camp Green Leaves

Camp Green Leaves is a summer day camp coordinated by the City of Burlington Recreation & Parks Department for children and adults with developmental disabilities. The camp schedule includes activity rotations in the outdoors, including arts and crafts, music, sports and games, visual arts and supervised free time. The camp also features daily active field trips on busses/vans to local parks and recreation facilities, as well as trips around central North Carolina. 

Participants are grouped by age and all participants must be independent with mobility, feeding, toileting and all self-care needs. Participants should participate in group activities and must be able to stay with the group. Participants who are not self-sufficient will be required to have a one-on-one personal assistant, which the parent/guardian must provide. Participants must have manageable behaviors and healthcare needs. They must be exempt from any extreme healthcare conditions or needs. Camp Green Leaves is not able to accommodate participants needing assistance with ambulation due to uneven and rugged terrain. Staff to participant ratio is 1:2.

Alamance County residents have priority registration in early April; non-residents will be considered in late April. Camp registration will be completed online through CivicRec. 

Caswell County Partnership for Children

The first five years of childhood are the most critical in developing the brains of our children for strong and healthy lives. As citizens in our communities, we all have a stake in making sure our children have experiences during this time that help to positively shape the structure of the brain as they develop. Today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders, parents and workers, and it is incumbent upon adults to ensure this happens so that our children thrive. That is where the Caswell County Partnership for Children (CCPFC) comes in.

The CCPFC is a non-profit organization developed to serve children, youth and families in Caswell County. CCPFC administers the state Smart Start program and NC Pre-K program.

Caswell County Schools Exceptional Children's Department

Caswell County Schools Exceptional Children Department serves about 400 students with special needs, ages 3-21. The school system provides a continuum of service to meet individual student needs. Whenever possible, students are served in schools in their base attendance area with support from special education and related services and/or building modifications.  For students who require a separate setting or more intensive services in order to benefit from their special education, programs may be clustered centrally but continue to be based on school campuses that house age-appropriate peers.

Caswell County Health Department:

Serving the community through Child Service Coordination; health services to women & children, WIC program; maternity & postpartum care services; and more. 

The Care Management unit offers care management for at-risk children under the age of 5 and high-risk pregnant women.  It also offers the Community Alternatives Program (CAP) that offers case management and support to medically fragile adults and children, allowing them to stay in their homes rather than a long-term care facility. 

Caswell County Emergency Medical Services (CCEMS)

CCEMS transports patients to the closest appropriate facility, that directly surrounds Caswell County.  (Annie Penn, Alamance Regional, UNC Hillsborough, Person Memorial, & Sovah Health-Danville.)  We also transport to additional facilities should the patient’s condition dictate.  These facilities include Duke Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, UNC Medical Center-Chapel Hill, and Moses Cone Hospital.

Camp Ann

Camp Ann is a summer day camp program for middle school-aged children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, offer crafts, field trips, swimming games, time with friends and much more! Registration for Camp Ann opens in February annually. 

• Middle School/High School Weeks - two weeks each summer for ages 11-18.
• Adult Weeks - four weeks each summer for ages 18+.

Cone Health Pediatric Complex Care Clinic

Cone Health's Pediatric Complex Care Clinic is a specialized healthcare facility that provides comprehensive and coordinated care for children with multiple and complex medical needs. In order to qualify for care within our Complex Care Clinic, the patient must meet one of the below descriptions: 

• A chronically medically fragile child with at least two medical specialists that are not psychiatric.
• A child with chronic multisystem disease and social determinants of health that limit them from having multiple specialists or that make them medically fragile. 

Services Provided:

Within this clinic, a patient might see one or all of these team members: a medical doctor, a nurse practitioner, a dietician, an integrated behavior health therapist and a case manager.

• Neurology/neurodevelopmental/neuropalliative care, if applicable
• Complex symptom management (pain, fussiness or agitation, feeding and nutrition, airway clearance)
• Care coordination (care plan development, coordinate with school, community services, other providers)
• Case management (service delivery, social determinants of health)
• Goal-directed decision making (advanced directives, service triage, discharge planning)
• Provider-level home visits for triage or when unable to get to PCP

Communication Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

We’re a non-profit 501(c)3 organization with a 7-member Board of Directors. Our Board consists of local community leaders and business professionals who represent the Piedmont Triad, and is majority d/Deaf. 

In addition to our daily scheduling of communication access services, we also established the Evans-Melton Communication Access Fund to make sure that Deaf individuals have communication access in situations not covered by the ADA or other laws, such as at weddings and funerals - at no cost.

We provide sign language classes in-person and online to anyone interested in learning. Students who take our classes have a variety of motivations for wanting to learn sign language.

ASL classes to help you develop conversational skills in ASL and an awareness and appreciation for the Deaf community. Access the registration and schedule on their webpage.

Managed Care Organization

Trillium Health Resources is the Managed Care Organization for Rockingham County. 

Trillium coordinates integrated health care services for adults and children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Individuals and families without Medicaid may be eligible for State-funded services.

People with an I/DD may need assistive technology, modified equipment, or other adjustments in order to complete everyday tasks. Trillium works with these individuals, their families, and providers to help them reach their goals and live fulfilling lives.

North Carolina Zoo's Sensory Inclusion

The North Carolina Zoo has partnered with KultureCity to improve our ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. Our objective is to provide an inclusive and seamless experience for all guests including those with sensory needs.  We strive to raise awareness of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with sensory processing disorders by supplying our Team Members with continuous training and by offering the resources and accommodations below to our guests.

Sensory Bags

Sensory bags containing special KCVIP badges, fidget tools, noise canceling headphones and other resources are available for checkout (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services offices located at the North America and Africa entrances and at Kidzone.

Weighted Lap Pads

Weighted lap pads are also available upon request (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services offices located at the North America and Africa entrances and at KidZone.

Quiet Zones

The Zoo has designated “Quiet Zones” throughout the park. These areas typically have less activity and spaces to sit and regroup after becoming overstimulated.  Quiet Zones are in the following locations:

• Gazebo near the Desert
• Gazebo near Lemur
• Seating Area Near Baboon Trail

The Zoo has identified areas that are noisy and where guests tend to linger as “Headphone Zones.”  These areas include:
