Children with Down Syndrome bring unique joys to their families and communities. The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro brings area families together for a special kind of support. This group, which is supported by an FSNCC Parent Leadership Grant, provides a variety of services to families:
At birth:
- A member of our Staff visits families of new babies born at Women's Hospital of Greensboro to provide information and support
- Each family is presented with a Welcome Packet containing informational books, DVDs, and a resource directory
- Parent-to-parent matching service
- Assistance with transition to state Infant-Toddler program
The support continues as children grow. The Down Syndrome Network offers several recreational events each year for the whole family. Our annual Buddy Walk raises awareness and funding for the group, while bringing families together for a day of fun and friendship. Regularly scheduled "Moms' Nights Out" enable parents to take a break and share their experiences.
The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro receives ongoing support from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Genetic Counseling Program. Other affiliations include the National Down Syndrome Society and the National Down Syndrome Congress.
