When we are faced with a child's disability, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, isolated, and alone. The Family Support Network of Central Carolina offers a range of FREE parent support groups to offer parents an understanding and caring community. Often, there's just no substitute for the kind of empathetic support that comes from another parent who has faced a similar situation. Moms' Group, an informal support group for mothers with children of any age, with any type of special needs. Meets on the first Thursday of each month during the school year. Please click here for our 2009-2010 calendar.
Dads' Group, an informal support group for fathers with children of any age, with any type of special needs. Meets during the school year on the third Monday of each month. Locations vary; call for this month's info.
Sibshops & GALS: Brothers and sisters of children with special needs deserve special care and attention themselves. That's why we offer two support programs just for siblings. SIBSHOPS is an upbeat, recreation-based program for brothers and sisters of kids with special needs in grades 2-6. GALS (Girls Appreciating Loved Siblings) is just for sisters of kids with special needs in grades 5 and up. Click here for more information about these amazing programs!
The Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro offers post-partum support, monthly Moms' Nights Out, social and recreational events, and much more.

AD/HD Parent Support Group. This group is offered in collaboration with Moses Cone Behavioral Health Center, UNCG's AD/HD Clinic, and a dedicated team of parent coordinators. Speakers address topics related to AD/HD at these informative meetings, held every other month on the fourth Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:30 at Trinity Church, 5200 W. Friendly Avenue in Greensboro. Girls' CLUB is a social & recreational group for girls aged 9-14 who have Asperger disorder, AD/HD, high-functioning autism, or other conditions that can affect social learning. This group is run by a dedicated team of parent coordinators. Participating families are asked to help plan and coordinate 1-2 events per year. To get involved and join the mailing list, please e-mail the group coordinator.
Our new Sensory Processing Disorder Parent Support Group meets every other month during the school year, and featuring informative speakers addressing topics related to SPD.
