Pledge Drive 2010
“They are always there to help & give support. They are there when you need them!" |
Last year a young mother stood at her baby’s incubator, wondering how she would be able to care for such a tiny and fragile infant. Another family travelled from hospital to hospital, hoping to pinpoint the cause of their son’s seizure disorder. A toddler who’d been struggling to walk was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder her parents had never heard of before. And the Mom of a child with autism worried as her son struggled to stay afloat in school. What did all of these families have in common? Each of them found the help and answers they needed through the Family Support Network of Central Carolina. Each year, we help hundreds of families and service providers in central North Carolina to find information, resources, and emotional support as they care for special children.
“It was nice to see that you were not alone
& that others had the same feelings and fears."
There’s no question that the past year has brought hard times to our community. As you might imagine, the current economic climate poses an acute threat to non-profit organizations like ours. We are already experiencing decreases in funding due to the hardships faced by our supporters, both public and private. However, while our resources may be shrinking, the need for our services is growing by leaps and bounds. More and more families are being discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit without the basic supplies they need to care for their fragile infants. More and more families are turning to us for resources and referrals as they seek community agencies to provide services for their children. And when financial uncertainty is added to the stress of raising a child with special needs, the importance of parent-to-parent support becomes all the more poignant.
“The services give hope to the parents of preemies, and provide educational benefits and reassurance. I’m forever grateful!”
A donation to FSNCC is an investment in our community. Every dollar contributed supports programs like Elizabeth’s Closet, our storehouse of supplies for eligible families bringing their babies home from the NICU; and Sibshops, our support program for brothers and sisters of children with special needs. When a baby is born prematurely or with medical issues, we will connect the family with the services they need. When a child is diagnosed with a disability, we will be on hand from day one to provide them with information and emotional support. With your help, we will continue to tailor our program to meet the needs of families in our community who need us most. Together we can help each and every family to fully appreciate the joy of parenting – no matter what their child’s needs.
On behalf of all of us at FSNCC, we
thank you very
much for your support.
