PLEASE NOTE: Our sibling orientation programs are temporarily on hold as we work to enhance and improve our services for big brothers and sisters. Please check back soon, or speak with a member of our staff to learn when our sibling programs will be available once again.
A NICU stay can be a stressful and emotional time for the whole family - and brothers and sisters are no exception. Our NICU sibling support programs can help your older children make sense of their own NICU experience - while allowing you time to spend with your baby. These programs are FREE and available for children ages 2 and up.
Sibling Orientation
Children will discuss some of the following topics:
- Talk about why babies are in the NICU
- Hear how to keep germs away from babies
- Take a guided tour of the NICU
- Make a calendar to “count up” to discharge day
- Participate in medical play
- See our library collection just for brothers and sisters
- Receive a copy of “No Bigger Than My Teddy Bear”
- Take home a comfort blanket provided by Project Linus
Participants will also have access to our sibling resource library, featuring books written just for big brothers and sisters of babies in the NICU. To sign up, Please e-mail us or give us a call at (336) 832-6507. Please include your contact information and your children's ages. We will schedule a session time that works well for your family. If possible, please schedule your sibling orientation session as early as possible during your NICU stay.
Funding for our Sibling Orientation Program is provided by the Junior League of Greensboro and Guilford County Partnership for Children, with special support from Newborns in Need and Project Linus.
Sibnights
In addition to the Sibling Orientation Program, brothers and sisters are welcome to join us on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:00 pm for Sibnight, hosted by Family Support Network. This one hour block of time allows parents to spend time in NICU while brothers and sisters of NICU babies play games, enjoy a snack and/or make a craft. Find us in the conference room across from the NICU. Call (336)832-6507 or e-mail us to learn more.
